Boating Safety Awareness Patrols

The Oregon State Marine Board, in partnership with marine law enforcement partners from across the state, will be joining Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol in a joint special emphasis patrol, from October 27th through 29th. The Sheriff’s Offices assisting in the special emphasis patrols include Linn, Clackamas, Douglas, and Lincoln, in addition to the Oregon State Police. The primary focus is on motorboat registration compliance, safety equipment carriage requirements (both motorized and non-motorized), and fishing licenses.

“With the fall boating season here, it’s important to ensure boaters are safe while enjoying the waterways. This time of year, weather can change fast, water temperatures drop and something as simple as ensuring your throwable is readily accessible can make the difference between a tragic boating incident or going home at the end of the day,” says Eddie Persichetti, Marine Law Enforcement Training Coordinator for the Marine Board.

“Coastal boating offers such a dynamic range of fun, from fishing to crabbing and paddleboarding to kayaking, it has it all. We appreciate the opportunity to assist Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office and look forward to seeing everyone on the water.” Recreational boaters can expect to see patrol teams at the Port of Garibaldi, Netarts Bay, Nehalem Bay/River, and the Nestucca, Wilson, Trask, Kilchis, and Tillamook Rivers.
