Distracted Driver Crashes Into A Cadillac

On 10/15/20 at approximately 3:38 PM, Oregon State Police responded to a crash on hwy 101. Investigations showed the driver of a black Cadillac sedan was northbound on US Highway 101 near Yachats River Road and stopped waiting for a vehicle ahead of it to turn westbound onto Lemwick Lane in Yachats. A gray Jeep Commander was northbound behind the Cadillac and the driver of the Jeep, identified as 48 year old Cynthia M. Berend of Medford was distracted and looked away from the road.

When she saw the Cadillac was stopped ahead, she tried to brake and swerve onto a private drive along the eastern side of US Highway 101. The Jeep rolled onto its driver side and came to a rest in a ditch along the eastern shoulder after impacting the rear of the Cadillac. All occupants were wearing safety restraints and were uninjured. Berend was cited for careless driving. OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT Incident Response and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
