Off Duty Trooper Spots Impaired Driver

On 9/14/22 at approximately 235PM State Police Trooper Severson received contact from an off-duty OSP Trooper regarding a reckless driving incident nearly causing a crash with a semi-truck near Ellmaker State Park on Highway 20. The subject vehicle was described as a damaged Honda sedan. Trooper Severson located the car in Newport. Upon contact, the driver, identified as 33-year old Daniel I Taylor displayed multiple signs of impairment. After performing field sobriety tests Taylor was arrested and charged with DUI - controlled substance, and misdemeanor driving suspended. A search of the vehicle yielded multiple glass pipes with burned residue and burnt foil used for inhaling substances. The car was impounded and towed by Coast Towing.
