At approximately 2:00am on March 31st, 2019 Officers from the Newport Police Department were dispatched to the Shilo Inn on a report of two males illegally entering an unoccupied hotel room. Upon arrival, officers attempted to contact the males, but found they had barricaded themselves inside the room by placing furniture against the door to prevent entry.
The officers, assisted by Shilo employees, were able to remove some of the furniture and unlock the door. 25-year-old Newport resident, Daniel Casey, was immediately located and detained without incident. The other male had further barricaded himself inside the bathroom and refused to come out. Officers used a battering ram to gain entry to the bathroom, where they located and detained 24-year-old Newport resident Tylor Dixon.
Dixon and Casey were charged with Burglary in the First Degree, a Class-A Felony. Dixon was also charged with Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, a Class-C Felony, for the damage he caused to the interior of the bathroom while trying to break down a wall to escape into an adjoining room.
