OFFICIALLY DESIGNATING FORMER DON DAVIS PARK AS DON AND ANN DAVIS PARK
On Tuesday, November 20, 2018, former newport City Manager, Don Davis, City of Newport Mayor Sandy Roumagoux, councilors David Allen, Dean Sawyer, Dietmar Goebel, and Wendy Engler, and current and retired staff, gathered to unveil a new sign designating the former "Don Davis Park” to the “Don and Ann Davis Park.”
The City Council initiated the renaming of the park in April of 2018 when it adopted Resolution No. 3799. Subsequently, on June 4, 2018, and after several public hearings, Council adopted Ordinance No. 2132 officially renaming the park as the “Don and Ann Davis Park.”
The City Council recognized the contributions that Don Davis made to the City of Newport, as its first City Manager serving nearly 30 years in the position. It also recognized the contributions of Ann Davis who was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, PEO, the Knotty Ladies, the Yaquina Arts Association, the Lincoln County historical Society, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Atonement Lutheran Church, and the Oregon Coast Council of the Arts, and when taken as a whole, constitutes a significant contribution to the betterment of the city and its citizens. One of the most significant roles that Ann Davis played in the City of Newport was that of supporting partner to her husband, Don, during his decades of civic leadership in the City of Newport.
Prior to the unveiling of the sign, Mayor Roumagoux spoke about the contributions made by the Davis Family during Don’s tenure as City Manager. She presented Don with a framed copy of Resolution No. 3799, and thanked him and his family for their contributions to the City of Newport.
