On 04/16/2020 at approximately 1:21 PM, the Oregon State Police responded to a welfare check on SR 229 near MP 4. A male had been reported as sitting on the fogline in the area acting erratically. OSP checked the area, but the subject was gone at the time. Approximately twenty minutes later, OSP received additional reports of a shirtless man in the same area jumping out into traffic. Two Troopers arrived at the scene and made contact with the male near the Kernville Fire Station.
The subject was uncooperative, threatening violence, and appeared to be having visual and auditory hallucinations. The Troopers deescalated the encounter and summoned additional resources to the scene including the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office mental health crisis response team. At approximately 2:53 the subject was detained on a Peace Officer’s mental health hold without further incident. He was transported to the Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital for evaluation. No injuries were sustained. The case will be forwarded to the Lincoln County Mental Health Department.
