Would you know how to respond when a young person says they are depressed or are thinking of suicide? This free course will help you learn the skills you need to respond appropriately.
Join us for a youth-focused Mental Health First Aid course on Tuesday, June 25, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Center for Health Education, 740 SW Ninth St., Newport.
Sponsored by Samaritan Health Services, the eight-hour training uses role-playing to demonstrate how to offer initial help in a mental health crisis, give reassurance and information, as well as connect young people to the appropriate professional support and self-help strategies. The program also teaches the common risk factors and warning signs that might be seen with adolescents experiencing mental health concerns.
Registration is required, and space is limited. To register, please call 866-243-7747, register at www.samhealth.org/MentalHealthFirstAid or email SHSHealthEd@samhealth.org.
