Truck Fire And Animal Rescue

Friday March 15th was a busy day for the Tillamook County First Responders. First, Oregon State Police Senior Trooper John King and personnel from the Oregon Dept. of Transportation just happened to roll up on a truck fire on Highway 22 at milepost 2.

"The vehicle had smoke pouring out of the engine compartment," said Trooper King. "Our fire extinguishers were ineffective and flames soon engulfed the front of the truck. Nestucca Fire arrived and soon had the fire extinguished. They were very fast, efficient and professional and thanks to them, the fire did not become worse and we were able to open the highway quickly."

Later in the day, Tillamook County Sheriff's Deputy David Bartlett and Corporal Ethan Ault responded to an unusual request for assistance on Fawcett Creek. "A family's Husky dog decided to chase a chicken and a turkey and all three tumbled down a steep bank to the creek," said Deputy Bartlett. The owner was unable to rescue the animals, so Ault and Bartlett used ropes to get down to the animals and rescue them. "Sadly, the turkey had to be dispatched due to the severity of its injuries," said Deputy Bartlett.
