Driver Arrested For DUII After Crash On Hwy 20

On July 28th at 12:16pm State Police Trooper Trombla was dispatched to a single vehicle crash near the area of mile post 16 on highway 20. The crash was reported as a truck on its top in a river, with all occupants out and no injuries. When he arrived on scene Trooper Trombla located the driver and 2 passengers of the Truck. The driver, identified as 32-year old Erasmo Gregorio Gomez of Newport reported he had crashed the night prior and drove back to the scene to call for a tow.

Gomez smelt of alcoholic beverages and displayed signs of impairment. He consented to participate in field sobriety tests and performed poorly and was taken into custody and transported to Lincoln County Jail where he provided a breath sample showing a 0.20% blood alcohol content. Gomez was cited and released for DUII-Alcohol, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering x2 and Fail to Perform Duties of Driver with Property Damage.
