Hwy 20 Crash Injures Two Drivers

Sunday morning just before 11 AM Oregon State Police responded to a vehicle collision that occurred on Hwy-101 and the Hwy-229 intersection. A 2015 white Nissan sedan was traveling west at a high rate of speed, when a 2003 blue Mercury Sable entered the roadway from the 229 intersection leaving Toledo. The Sable then collided with the Nissan, pushing both vehicles off the roadway into the guardrail on the west shoulder. Witnesses stated they observed the driver of the Nissan, identified as 19-year old Austin W. Madden of Oakland traveling at a high rate of speed. Madden reportedly admitted to driving 60 mph, and the passenger said they were going around 57-58 mph. The posted speed limit is 45mph. The driver of the Sable 85-year old Julia M. Purdom said she was trying to cross the intersection from Toledo to Hwy-229. Toledo Police and Fire department assisted with the crash. The occupants of both cars were transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport. Both drivers were issued citations.
