Community celebration for new public murals on Newport’s Bayfront

Newport, Oregon: Three new murals are coming to Newport’s bayfront, and the whole community is invited to be there for the unveiling! On Saturday, June 27, from 2 to 5 pm, the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts (OCCA) will host a free celebration at Bay Street Pier to mark the installation of three new mural panels on the US Coast Guard retaining wall, each created by a local artist.

The project began in fall 2025, when the original panels on the retaining wall were removed due to damage. OCCA, which manages Newport’s public art program on behalf of the City of Newport, then issued an open call for local artists to create replacements.
