Metropolitan Opera presents Richard Strauss’s elegant romance – Arabella – and local audiences can see it live, as it happens, right here on the Oregon Coast. The production will be streamed directly from the Met stage in New York to the big screen at Newport Performing Arts Center on Saturday, November 22nd, at 10:00 am.
The Met’s sumptuous staging by legendary director Otto Schenk captures the enchantment and emotional depth of Strauss’s final collaboration with librettist Hugo von Hofmannsthal. The story centers on the beautiful and witty Arabella, a young noblewoman determined to find a true love who respects her independence, despite the pressures of her financially strained family.
The performance will feature soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen in her role debut as the title heroine. She is joined by radiant soprano Louise Alder in her Met debut as Arabella’s sister, Zdenka, and bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny as Mandryka, the dashing…
