Explore a Universe Of Stories At The Newport Pubic Library

Newport Public Library starts off the summer with reading programs for all ages. This summer's theme is "Universe of Stories." Programs begin the week of June 17 and are designed to encourage reading as a priority this summer.

"Reading is our gateway to other worlds, other people’s life experiences, fact and fiction. For children, especially, reading can engage the imagination," said Linda Annable, Children’s Services Supervisor.

Research indicates that students who do not read over the summer can lose up to one month of learning, resulting in a learning setback when school begins in the fall, making stocking up on reading materials over the summer so important. In addition to a variety of materials for children to read and listen to, Newport Public Library offers fun and educational events weekly including storytimes, and programs in Literacy Park.

Events in Literacy Park kick off June 19 with a presentation by motivational speaker Kacey McCallister. Then, Tears of Joy Theater returns with puppet theater on June 26.

Summer reading isn’t just for kids! This summer the Library will be holding a reading rewards program for adults 19 and older. Beginning June 1, stop by the library to sign up and get a reading log. For every book (or eBook or audiobook) you read, fill out a raffle ticket for a chance to win a weekly prize drawing for fantastic literary gift baskets.
