Sheridan/SW Polk/West Valley Fire Districts responded to a report of multiple small fires along the highway. First arriving firefighters found that there was several small fires adjacent to the highway. Multiple calls were received from the public that these fires were spreading. Multiple brush units and water tenders were requested to assist. The roadside fires were rapidly controlled and extinguished.
A reported commercial fire was reported to also be occuring simultaniously at 27775 Hwy 18. This incident was found to be West of the original fires. Sheridan/SW Polk/West Valley Fire Districts Battilion Chief 140 arrived at 27775 Hwy 18 to find multiple outbuldings and debri actively burning and spreading rapidly.
The cause of the fires are currently under investigation by The Oregon State Fire Marshal's office. Sheridan/SW Polk/West Valley Fire Districts thanked their partners for their assistance in extinguishing the multiple fire incident. All of the fires were extinguished with the assistance of the following agencies: Polk County Sheriff's Office, OSP, ODOT, Grand Ronde Tribal P.D., Polk County Fire District #1, ODF, North Lincoln Fire and Rescue, Amity Fire District, McMinnville Fire Department, and The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Natural Resources Department.
