On 3/8/21 just after 6 pm State Police Trooper Wertz was dispatched to the report of a male walking in the southbound lane of Hwy 101 near Seal Rock. While en route to the location another report was received, this time of a vehicle stopped in the southbound lane and two males inside the vehicle involved in an altercation. Police arrived on scene and found the suspect, identified as 31-year old Cody A. Perez of Newport entering the car from the driver's door and actively assaulting the driver. Perez was immediately detained and arrested. The driver was treated for injuries at the scene and later transported by a friend to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital. Perez was lodged in Lincoln County Jail on charges of Assault IV, Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle and Disorderly Conduct II.
