ODFW Offers Archery Instructor Training

ODFW will host an archery instructor certification training on Oct. 18, 2019 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. at Monument School, 217 North St., Monument for those interested in getting kids involved in archery. Teachers and others are welcome to attend.

The one-day training is part of the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP®). NASP® is an archery program run by school teachers, faculty, parents and other volunteers within the school. It is open to 4th-12th grade students as both an in-school and after school activity.

To register for the training please contact, Stephanie Rustad, ODFW Archery Education Coordinator, Stephanie.m.rustad@state.or.us.

ODFW trains instructors who lead the archery program in their school as they see fit. The

training teaches them how to safely set-up an archery range, how to shoot a bow and teach others to shoot and how to take care of the equipment. ODFW provides equipment kits to Oregon schools on a long-term loan basis as long as they meet the basic requirements to be part of the NASP® program.

Archery is currently a growing sport in Oregon and each year more schools become involved in NASP®. This past year, ODFW had more than 9,000 students from 78 schools participate in NASP®. At the 2019 state NASP® tournament, ODFW was able to award $4,500 in scholarship prizes.
