Apartment Fire In Newport

At 8:14 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2019, Newport Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke coming from a third floor balcony at an apartment on SE 35th Street. Upon arrival fire units observed moderate smoke coming from the third floor deck area of a unit.

Fire crews made access and quickly extinguished the fire. The adjacent units were not damaged. Crews remained on scene for a few hours overhauling the structure. There was some water damage to the involved unit. Residents from the unit have arranged to stay with family and friends. There were no injuries reported.

Newport Fire Department received mutual aid response from Depoe Bay Fire District, Seal Rock Fire District, and Toledo Fire Department. Newport Police Dept. and Pacific West Ambulance provided assistance. Newport Fire Department responded with 2 fire engines, 1 ladder truck, one rescue truck, 1 chief officer and 11 firefighters.
