Aquarium Hosting Trick Or Treat Street

Writer: Kiera MorganKiera Morgan

The weather is cooling, leaves are changing and the animals at the Aquarium are gourding, we mean gorging, on pumpkins for some enrichment fun. But there’s one more reason to fall for this time of year: Trick or Treat Street at the Oregon Coast Aquarium!

Trick or Treat Street will take place on Saturday, October 26, 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. and is co-hosted by the OSU Extension 4-H Youth Development Program. Mock storefronts arranged in a looping “street” feature local businesses handing out treats. The event provides a safe and dry environment for children 12 and under to go trick or treating.

Trick or Treat Street is free with the donation of two cans of people or pet food per entry, all of which goes toward the Food Share of Lincoln County. Nancy Mitchell, Executive Director for Food Share of Lincoln County, explained that the “event brings a welcome boost to our shelf stable food supply, especially following the summer months when food donations tend to fall flat.

For those in our community continually facing increased living expenses, access to a food program can allow individuals to free up household income to pay their utility bill, auto insurance, or for much needed medicine. Trick or Treat Street is a prime example of how community-led efforts help families and individuals stay afloat.” The Aquarium will close at 4:00 p.m. on October 26 in preparation for Trick or Treat Street and re-open at 6:00 p.m. Normal winter hours will resume on October 27, opening at 10:00 a.m. and closing at 5:00 p.m.

This year there will be around twenty storefronts to pass out candy. Thank you Fred Meyer, Lincoln County Animal Shelter, Mini Pet Mart, JC Market, Masonic Lodge, Shangri-La, Food Fair/US Market, Oregon Parks and Recreation, Ocean Tire Factory, 4-H Afterschool Program, Anchor Point Archery Club, First Interstate Bank, Grocery Outlet, Walmart and Lincoln Community Correction for participation in this event.
