On June 8th at approximately 11:36 AM, State Police Trooper Eskridge and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Ona Beach State Park after receiving a report there was a male in the park threatening someone with a knife. Due to poor cellphone service in the area, limited information was available. The suspect was described as being Caucasian, approximately 5’10”, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, and was reported to have been wielding a drywall knife.
Oregon State Police and two Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies canvased the park and surrounding area and did not locate the suspicious male. The complainants, both from Eugene were interviewed later in Waldport and reported the suspicious person had first been observed approximately 20 feet up a tree along the seashore. The male climbed down the tree and followed the complainant and his girlfriend to the Ona Beach park bridge where he climbed onto the bridge rails and began making stabbing motions in the air with the drywall knife. No one at the park was directly threatened and no one was harmed. The investigation is ongoing.
