Saturday, April 4th at around 2pm Newport police responded to a report of a two car crash that occurred on the Yaquina Bay Bridge causing weekend traffic to back up for over an hour and a half. According to Newport Police the driver of a Toyota Tacoma traveling north over the bridge drifted to the right and struck the northbound sidewalk on the bridge, then the truck bounced into the southbound lane.
The driver of the Tacoma over corrected and struck a green Chevrolet pickup that was traveling in the southbound lane causing the driver of the Tacoma to hit the sidewalk on the southbound side, and go into the bridge concrete railing. The 76-year old driver of the Tacoma was transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.
