Newport resident Steven DeMauro was found guilty of Murder 2 by a Lincoln County jury and was sentenced to 25-years in prison. DeMauro was arrested and taken into custody on November 27, 2019, after Newport Police Officers were dispatched to the address of 811 SE 5th St. regarding a male subject who had been shot. Upon arrival, Officers found the victim 59-year old Tony Larson deceased with an apparent gunshot wound.
DeMauro, remained on scene and was taken into custody. Investigation revealed that DeMauro shot the victim during an argument over a girlfriend. DeMauro's attorney claimed the shooting was self-defense. District Attorney Jonathan Cable said "I appreciate the hard work of Deputy District Attorneys Lynn Howard and Chrystal Dickinson who tried the case for the State. Their hard work held the Defendant accountable for the senseless taking of a human life."
