On January 16th at approximately 5:08 pm State Police Trooper Wertz was dispatched to a single vehicle crash which occurred on Hwy 18 near the intersection of North Bank Rd. A gray Hyundai sedan was westbound on Hwy 18 when, for an unknown reason, the car veered across the opposing lane and attempted to stop on the shoulder before it drove into a ditch. Upon contact with the driver, identified as 51-year old Steven H. Byrum exhibited signs of impairment and smelled strongly of alcohol. He consented to physically cooperate with a partial battery of Safetu field sobriety test's and performed poorly on them. Byrum was taken into custody and transported to Lincoln City Police Department where he consented to a breath test rendering a result of .09 Blood alcohol content. The driver was cited and released on charges of DUII - Alcohol and Reckless Driving.
