Monday night at approximately 9:50pm State Police Trooper Wertz was dispatched to a single vehicle roll over crash with entrapment which occurred on Hwy 101 near Driftwood Beach State Park. Investigation showed a blue Toyota Prius, was southbound when it crossed the opposing lane of travel and crashed into a tree on the northbound shoulder. The vehicle rolled over and came to an uncontrolled rest on its top with the driver, later identified as 41-year old Matthew F. Blazina entrapped in the driver seat. Seal Rock, Central Coast and Yachats Fire departments responded and were able to extract Blazina from the car.
He was interviewed before being transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities hospital and exhibited signs of impairment. Drug paraphernalia was located within the car. A follow up interview was conducted at the hospital and Blazina exhibited further signs of impairment. A warrant for blood and urine was obtained and executed. A hospital urine toxicology panel showed presumptive positive results for the presence of numerous controlled substances in his system. When he was medically cleared from the hospital he was lodged in Lincoln County Jail on charges of DUII - Controlled Substances and Reckless Driving.
