
Monday just after midnight State Police Trooper Wertz stopped the driver of a green Jeep Commander on a routine traffic stop on US 101 near the south end of Newport after observing the Jeep drive over the center line and speeding. Upon contact the driver, who was identified as 45-year old Christopher M. Hicks of Toledo, exhibited numerous signs of impairment and reportedly admitted to recently taking alcohol. He consented to and performed poorly on SFST's.
Hicks was taken into custody and transported to Lincoln County Jail. The Jeep was towed from the scene. During transport Hicks became extremely combative and aggressive. Jail deputies assisted to remove him from my Police Car and placed him in a restraint chair. Trooper Larson responded to the jail and established rapport with the suspect so that he consented to provide a breath sample, rendering a result of .13 Blood Alcohol Content. Hicks was lodged in jail on charges of DUII - Alcohol and Reckless Driving.
