
On the late evening of January 3, 2020, the Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle traffic crash on Hwy 20 near Clem Rd. The traffic crash investigation found that a Silver Dodge pick-up was traveling east near the location when for unknown reasons lost control and struck the eastbound guardrail. The truck then went across the roadway and up the hill of the opposing shoulder before crashing head-on into a tree.
The front seat passenger - Identified as 20 year old Tanner J Jewell, of SweetHome - was deceased upon arrival. A female on scene claimed to be the middle seat passenger and described an unknown male to be driving at the time of the crash and reported that she only knew the drivers first name. An extensive area search was conducted and no other occupants were located and there were no signs of anyone being ejected.
The female occupant was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. She was further interviewed at the hospital and follow up will be continued.
Oregon State Police was assisted by Toledo Fire Department, Philomath Fire Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, ODOT Maintenance, ODOT Incident Response, PacWest Ambulance, Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office, and Lincoln County Medical Examiner’s Office.
