Fire Crews Prevent Sturcture Fire From Spreading

At approximately 6:34 p.m. on Sunday August 30, 2026, Central Coast Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire on Risley Creek Road. Engine 72 and Chief Jamie Mason arrived on scene to find a residential structure fully involved in fire. Due to the extent of the fire upon arrival, crews immediately began fire suppression operations while working to protect the surrounding area.

Tender 73 arrived shortly afterward and was placed into service to support water supply operations. Because this area is not served by fire hydrants, establishing and maintaining an adequate water supply was a significant challenge throughout the incident. Additional firefighting and water supply resources were provided through mutual-aid partners.

Yachats Rural Fire Protection District supplied an engine and a water tender, while Newport Fire and East Lincoln Fire provided additional water tenders. Their assistance was critical in providing the large volume of water needed to support firefighting operations. Pacific West Ambulance transported one patient for evaluation.

Because the structure was located in a heavily wooded area, fire crews also had to contend with spot fires in the surrounding vegetation. The Oregon Department of Forestry assisted with locating and extinguishing those spot fires, helping prevent the fire from spreading farther into the surrounding forest.

The U.S. Forest Service and Lincoln County Sheriff's Office - Oregon  also assisted with scene control and safety operations during the incident. As a precautionary measure due to the fire's location and the potential for fire spread into the surrounding wooded area, Level 2 – Be Set evacuation levels were issued for the immediate area near the fire. These precautions were taken to ensure residents were prepared to leave should conditions worsen.

After approximately six hours of firefighting operations, crews were able to bring the fire under control and complete the necessary suppression and overhaul operations.

This incident once again demonstrates the importance of strong mutual-aid partnerships. When a major incident occurs, particularly in an area without hydrants, having neighboring fire agencies and partner organizations willing to bring personnel, apparatus, water, and specialized resources is critical to protecting our communities. No additional information regarding the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage is available at this time.
