Groundbreaking On New Treatment Center

Pacific Communities Health District along with Samaritan Health Services held a ground breaking ceremony for the new Samaritan Treatment and Recovery Services program, known as STARS. The 16-bed facility will offer in-house treatment for those seeking help and recovery from substance use. There is hope to have the facility open by early fall of 2024. The facility was formerly used as an adult foster care home and will be converted into an inpatient and outpatient substance use disorder treatment facility.

According to a representative from Senator Merkley's office Oregon sits second in the nation the Substance Abuse disorder and are last in the nation for treatment. State Representative David Gomberg said this facility will be a huge to help those in need. Samaritan Treatment & Recovery Services provides services to adults 18 years of age and older, for addiction and behavioral health treatment. Substance use disorder affects a person’s brain and behavior, leading to the inability to control their use of legal or illegal drugs, alcohol or medications.

Giving hope to hundreds of people is a driving force behind opening the Samaritan Treatment & Recovery Services center in Newport. The center will serve adults with substance use disorder from across Oregon, with priority given to residents of Lincoln County. As a nonprofit health care provider, Samaritan does not turn anyone away for inability to pay or insurance type.

The facility will model the successes of Samaritan’s treatment facility in Lebanon. The Pacific Communities Health District purchased the 4,700‑square‑foot property that will be home to the recovery center, while Samaritan Health Services will operate the program. North Lincoln Hospital Foundation and PacificCommunities Health District Foundation are spearheading the $6 million campaign to remodel the existing building and add space for critical services.
