Hwy 18 Crash Leads To DUII Arrest


On August 25th State Police Trooper Wertz responded to a two car crash with injuries which occurred on Hwy 18. Investigation showed the driver of a blue Chevy Tahoe, driven by 57-year old Kelly Peterson sideswiped a black Toyota Tacoma, as it was eastbound. The Chevy continued off the eastbound shoulder and rolled over after contacting the embankment, coming to an uncontrolled rest on its passenger side, blocking the eastbound lane.


The rear driver side tire of Toyota was completely sheared off and the car came to an uncontrolled rest blocking the westbound lane. The driver of the Toyota was not injured and his car was towed from the scene. Both occupants of the Chevy were unrestrained during the crash and entrapped in the SUV. They were both extricated by North Lincoln fire units and transported to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital with serious injuries.


Numerous alcohol containers were located in the Chevy. The driver and passenger of the Chevy were interviewed at the Hospital. Both exhibited numerous signs of impairment. The driver, Kelly Peterson admitted to recently drinking alcohol. He consented to a modified battery of Safety Field Sobriety Tests and performed poorly.


He consented to provide a blood sample and a hospital blood draw was tested for alcohol and Peterson had a Blood Alcohol Content of .230% and was cited and released to the care of the hospital for the charges of DUII - Alcohol, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering and Criminal Mischief II.
