The city of Waldport was scheduled to hold their monthly city council meeting on May 8th at 4pm however, around 10am that morning, the city put a post up on facebook that the meeting was cancelled. On April 3rd the city council held a hearing and voted to remove Lambert as Mayor. At the following city council meeting on April 10th Lambert, was was given an expulsion notice when she refused to step down.
She was then arrested and cited for the crime of disorderly conduct in the second degree. On Tuesday May 6th Lambert received a letter from District Attorney Wallace stating that they will not be pursuing the disorderly conduct charges that were brought against her due to lack of evidence. In the letter DA Wallace noted that after Lamber's removal, the Walldport Council meeting did not start right away so there was no way to confirm that she was the cause of the disturbance.
Dann Cutter, Waldport city manager, said they rescheduled the meeting out of concern for public safety. "When we have groups of supporters saying they are coming to support the city and groups of proponents who say they are going to come and rail against the city and they are both going to be in the same small room." Cutter added that the threshold for disruption is much higher than the Sheriff's Office is able to do anything about and for that reason it could create an avenue for a dangerous situation.
On Thursday May 8th Lambert announced that she will be attending the next council meeting when it is rescheduled as Mayor. She said she received notice through her attorney that she has been temporarily reinstated by Judge Bachart as Mayor, while the injunction against the city is being processed. Right after her dismissal as Mayor her attorney filed an injunction against the city and asked that she be reinstated during the process of the injunction while the injunction makes its way through the legal process.
When Lambert was asked if she feels that now that she has been reinstated if it will calm down some of the unrest in Waldport. The citizens just want to be heard," she said. "They have not been given a chance to voice their concerns and feel dismissed." Lambert said she is very grateful to the citizens of Waldport who care about their vote and have been working so hard to get her reinstated. Cutter said they are looking at a rescheduled date for the council meeting on May 22.
