K-9 Nato Helps Apprehend Burglary Suspect

On July 26th Newport Police responded to the Circle K store on a report of a theft where the suspect stole a pack of cigarettes. Officers reviewed the surveillance video and identified a suspect as 33-year old Stevie Cloutier of Newport. On July 27th Newport Police responded to McKays Market in Newport on a report of a man who had stolen items from the store. Video showed the same suspect as the theft from the Circle K. On July 30th Newport police responded to a report of a man in Nye Beach, who matched Cloutier description who broke a window out of a local business. Then police received another report of the same suspect stealing another pack of cigarettes from the Circle K.


Newport police spotted Cloutier walking away from the Circle K and attempted to make contact with him but he fled from police. The Newport Police Department requested assistance with apprehending Cloutier in the area of NE 3rd St. and NE Avery. Lincoln City Police Officers, including K9 Nato, responded to assist. In collaboration with the Newport Police Department utilizing their unmanned aerial system and K9 Nato officers were able to locate Cloutier hiding in the bushes next to a business. He was arrested by Newport Police and charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, three counts of Theft in the Third Degree, Escape in the Third Degree, and Possession of Methamphetamine.
