National Donut Day; First Responders Celebrated

June 6, 2025, is National Donut Day, and this year, The Salvation Army is honoring veterans and first responders as part of the 87th National Donut Day celebration. Established by The Salvation Army to recognize the efforts of their dedicated volunteers, affectionately known as “Donut Lassies,” this tradition pays tribute to those who served donuts and care to soldiers during World War I. The Donut Lassies played a crucial role in uplifting the spirits of troops, providing both nourishment and a sweet reminder of home.

In Lincoln County, volunteers from The Salvation Army will deliver generously donated donuts to local fire departments, police stations, the Sheriff’s Office, and Coast Guard personnel to express gratitude for their unwavering commitment and service to the community. Special thanks to Thompson's Sanitary Service, South Beach Manor, and Coastal Solutions Marketing for contributing to the Donut Day celebration. In addition to honoring first responders, The Salvation Army of Lincoln County is actively addressing the growing need within the community.

Every Wednesday, The Salvation Army operates the Food Pantry of Hope for those in need and runs a mobile pantry on Fridays in Lincoln City. Unfortunately, the demand for assistance has surged, with the organization currently providing over 120 food boxes every week to residents struggling to make ends meet. This increase in demand has led to a significant shortfall in food donations, prompting the Salvation Army to spend nearly $1,000 some weeks to supplement the Food Pantry of Hope.

As a result, donations are needed more than ever to ensure that every individual and family in Lincoln County can access the nourishment they require. Your support can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity in our community by providing Hope Beyond Hunger. Special thanks to those who donated donuts to help celebrate this important day, Rays Food Place, Blue Pig Bakery, Safeway in Newport and Lincoln City, McKays Market Newport, JC Market Toledo and Chesters in Depoe Bay.
