The Lincoln County School District announced they are deeply saddened to share that a Newport High School student, incoming sophomore Yael S. Felix-Trejo, died Monday night 8/14/23. After Felix-Trejo felt ill at soccer practice, his parents and emergency personnel were notified and arrived at the soccer field. Felix-Trejo was transported by ambulance to the Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport where he later died.
"Our school community is heartbroken for his family, friends and our entire community." A care room will be open at Newport High School for any NHS students who would like to come, gather with friends, and talk about what happened. Counselors available to help support students. During the Fall Sports Parent Night held on Tuesday night at Newport High School there was an opportunity to write a card or note expressing care.
