Otis Cafe Fire

Updated: Jul 5, 2019

On Thursday, July 4th, the Otis Cafe at 1259 Salmon River Highway (Hwy. 18) was reported to have heavy smoke coming from structure at approximately 7:45pm.  North Lincoln Fire & Rescue was dispatched to the scene and arrived within ten minutes and had the fire extinguished in approximately 30 minutes.

The cafe had heavy smoke engulfing the building and flames seen from the eaves and chimney.   Fire damage was contained to kitchen area and attic of the structure.  However, extensive damage was caused by smoke and heat throughout the small café. Otis Café owner, Jeff England stated that he hopes to rebuild and was overwhelmed by the show of support from the community.

The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there were no injuries to civilians or responding crews.   North Lincoln Fire & Rescue responded with five engines, an aerial truck, medic unit and additional staff vehicles, with over two dozen firefighters on the scene.

An additional engine from Depoe Bay Fire arrived on scene and an engine from Nestucca Rural Fire and Rescue came to Lincoln City for coverage in the district for the busy Independence Day holiday. Investigators from the joint Lincoln County Fire Investigation Team and Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office are looking through the scene today to determine the cause of the fire.
