Quilt Auction Will Benefit Hospice Patients

Samaritan Evergreen Hospice will hold a quilt sale on Monday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Center for Health Education, 740 SW Ninth St., Newport. Sale proceeds will help provide services to enhance care for patients in the countywide hospice program.

“We have been so thrilled with the generosity of our local and regional quilters! We received more than 70 handmade quilt donations, all created by intermediate to advanced quilters from throughout the region, and some from as far away as Washington and California,” said Melissa Maxon, volunteer coordinator for Hospice.

The array of quilts come in various sizes, styles, colors and textures, and are crafted to fit on beds or hang on walls. Shoppers will be able to bid on silent auction items, as well as buy some as priced. One quilt will be raffled off for just $1 a ticket. The sale will raise money to help Hospice staff provide services for patients and their families deemed necessary to support patients at the end of life but are not covered by Medicare. Services may include such items as music therapy and massage to soothe patients, and gas vouchers, phone bill assistance and travel vouchers for family members of patients.

Samaritan Evergreen Hospice, which serves Lincoln County, as well as Benton, Linn, Marion and Polk counties, offers end of life care to patients in their own home. The Albany-based program has a physical office in Newport, staffed by local employees. The program serves approximately 350 patients from throughout Lincoln County each year. The sale is open to the public. To learn more about the event, contact Maxon at 541-574-2537, or maxonm@samhealth.or
