Speed Humps on Ocean View Drive Set for Permanent Upgrade

The city council has approved a $75,000 project to replace temporary rubber speed humps on Ocean View Drive with permanent asphalt speed humps. City Engineer Chris Beatty presented recommendations to improve traffic control, proposing 14-foot long, 3-inch high asphalt speed humps that provide a more gradual slope for drivers. The new speed humps, tested and recommended by public works officials, are designed to slow traffic more smoothly than the current temporary installations.

The existing rubber speed humps will be repurposed, with plans to potentially install some in the recreation center parking lot to address slow down traffic in this area where there is a lot of pedestrian traffic. City staff will work with communications to notify residents about the upcoming construction. The project aims to enhance neighborhood safety while providing a more comfortable driving experience for residents. The city council unanimously approved the motion to replace the speed humps, marking a collaborative approach to addressing community traffic concerns.
