State Police Crash Report


On 8/3/21 state police trooper Katsikis responded to a single-vehicle, non-injury crash on Hwy 20 near milepost 16 when the eastbound driver of a Nissan Frontier pickup, identified as 31-year old Mizael Garcia Mendez of Salem drove onto the shoulder striking a fog marker and then crossed both lanes before striking the embankment. The pickup came to rest partly blocking the westbound lane. Mendez was issued citations for no operator's license, and failure to drive within lane.


On 08/05/2021 at approximately 7pm a Truck driving southbound through Depoe Bay collided with a parked Van which collided with and damaged the sea wall. The driver of the truck, 72-year old Robert G. Kennedy of Newport was cited for driving suspended and failure to drive within a lane. ODOT, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Depoe Bay Fire assisted at the scene. A section of the sea wall was taped off and will be assessed by ODOT.


08/07/2021 a person towing a fifth wheel trailer on hwy-20 near milepost 20 ran out of fuel and became stranded partially blocking the right slow lane on a large hill. An investigation revealed the operator, 36-year old Brian, D. Nordyke of Bend was driving while suspended, driving uninsured, and had a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear on a criminal citation out of Klamath County. Local tow companies were unable to tow the vehicle and assistance was requested from ODOT. ODOT provided two gallons of gasoline to get the vehicle out of the highway. Nordyke was cited and released on the warrant.


On 08/07/2021 at approximately just after 4pm State police trooper Katsikis responded to a two car crash on Hwy 101 near Beverly Beach. Investigation showed the driver of a Ford pickup collided with a Prius that was following a truck pulling a 5th wheel trailer as a pilot car. The driver of the truck 30-year old Jennifer D. Schuyler failed to stop before entering the highway where it struck the Prius. Both northbound and southbound lanes were shut down for approximately 45-minutes. Schuyler was cited for driving uninsured and failing to yield before entering a highway.
