On Christmas Day 12/25/2022 The Oregon State Police responded to a two vehicle crash involving a gold Lexus sedan and a white GMC Yukon. The 71-year old driver of the Lexus lost control after driving on some gravel in the roadway, which send the car into oncoming traffic, and collided with the Yukon. The Yukon rolled and came to rest on the driver side. The driver and front passenger of the Yukon were transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Lexus was uninjured.
On 12-28-2022 at approximately 4:23 PM a white Toyota RAV 4, driven by 86-year old Dolores R. Johnson failed to follow a stop sign turning left on to HWY 101 from NW Ocean View Drive striking a purple Dodge Ram in the southbound lane causing it to swerve into the northbound lane and hit a silver Nissan Murano head on. Johnson was cited for Failure to obey a traffic control device.
On 12/28/2022 Oregon State Police stopped the driver of a Lexus, identified as 19-year old Caleb S. Houck of California on Highway 101 at Lost Creek State Park for a traffic violation. The state police trooper determined that Mr. Houck was possibly impaired and after he performed poorly to the consented field sobriety tests he was arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Jail. While there he provided a breath sample of that showed a 0 blood alcohol content. Mr. Houck refused a drug recognition evaluation, however he did consent to providing a urine sample. Mr. Houck was cited and released at his hotel room in Newport for DUII, controlled substance.
