State Police Respond To DUII's And Crashes


On 8/25/22 at approximately 5AM a southbound vehicle crashed into the ditch near milepost 24 on Highway 229 south of Siletz. State Police Trooper Severson responded. The driver identified as 40-year old Matthew M. Williams showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody. A neighbor assisted in removing the vehicle from the ditch. Toledo Police assisted in the investigation. Williams was charged with DUII for controlled substances.


On 8/26/22 at approximately 4PM a log truck pulling a fully loaded trailer turned east onto Highway 20 from Harlan-Burnt Woods Road. As the truck turned east, the trailer overturned. The log bundle remained intact within the wraps and dumped onto the roadway in the center turn lane. Vehicles were able to continue east and westbound around the bundle. A self-loader responded and up-righted the trailer and recovered the logs. One lane was closed for approximately thirty minutes while highway was cleared.


On 8/28/2022 State Police Trooper Nathman responded to a multiple car crash on hwy 20 at milepost 3. Upon arriving on scene, the driver of a Honda, 21-year old O'Shaunessy A Kapfer of Toledo reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol. Through an investigation, it was found that she was driving under the influence of alcohol. Due to the injuries to Kapfer, she was not able to be lodged in jail. She was cited and released for DUII at the hospital in Newport before being transferred to another hospital for a higher level of care. She had a 4-year old child in the car with her, there were no reports of injuries to t he child. There was no mention of injuries to the driver of the Jeep and the two children in that vehicle.
