Toledo Citizen Receives Metorious Conduct Award

The Toledo Police Department recognized a local citizen with the Metorious Conduct Award. Matthew Miner was recognized for his courageous and selfless actions during a serious motor vehicle crash on May 10, 2026, near Highway 20 milepost 15.

When a vehicle left the roadway, traveled down a steep embankment, and came to rest in Simpson Creek, Mr. Miner did not hesitate to act. Along with two co-workers, he stopped to help, but Mr. Miner went even further by entering the creek and assisting the victim from the overturned vehicle.

Although the victim was able to initially self-extricate from the vehicle, she soon lost consciousness in Mr. Miner’s arms as he helped guide and carry her toward safety. In a dangerous and rapidly evolving situation, Mr. Miner placed the well-being of another person ahead of his own personal safety.

His quick actions, bravery, and willingness to help a stranger in distress played a vital role during this life-threatening emergency. Toledo Police Chief Pace noted that "Acts like these remind us that true heroism often arrives quietly, wearing work boots instead of capes. Mr. Miner’s actions reflect exceptional character, compassion, and courage under pressure."

Mr. Miner's regognition was originally scheduled to be presented in the Toledo Council Meeting, but the meeting was cancelled due to lack of a quorum. Mr. Miner had family members that travlelled from Sweet Home to attend the award presentation, so the Chief did it at the police station. He was given an a Certificate of Meritorious Conduct, signed by Chief Pace.
