Toledo Police Officer Honored For Saving Infant

During the second week of November, Toledo Dispatch received a call of a baby being delivered on Highway 229 near the weigh scales. Officer Dean was monitoring radio traffic and overheard dispatch requesting fire and medic units to the location. Without hesitation, Officer Dean responded to the scene to render assistance. Once on scene, Officer Dean observed that the baby had been delivered, was in distress, and not breathing. Dean administered CPR until the baby was responsive, where at that time care of the infant was handed off to the arriving medic unit and and fire personnel on scene.

The baby and the mother were transported to the hospital for continued care and monitoring. In conjunction with a family member on scene, Officer Dean’s rapid response, ability to recognize the severity of the situation, immediate actions and effective CPR all resulted in a positive impact on the babies survival. Dean was nominated and granted to receive the Toledo Police agencies Lifesaving Award. Chief Pace presented the award before Toledo City Council and audience.
