On September 13th at approximately 4:55pm, residents who live in the area of SW Wakeetum Street in Waldport overheard numerous rifle shots. On September 14th a black bear gut pile was discovered on private property off of SW Wakeetum St. On September 20th two subjects were contacted near SW Kamela Place in Waldport in connection to the rifle shots and bear gut pile.
Both subjects, identified as 36-year old Matthew Brown of Waldport and 23-year old Johnathan Corson were interviewed and later reportedly admitted to taking the bear on private property they did not have permission to be hunting on. The bear meat was wasted and was discarded by one of the subjects shortly after it was taken. Both men were cited for criminal trespass while in possession of a firearm. Two firearms, bear hide and attached skull and an un-validated bear tag were seized as evidence.
