Two Teens Rescued From Cliff In Lincoln City

Saturday, 7/5/2025 North Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews with the assistance of the US Coast Guard, rescued two juveniles off the rock face near Gods Thumb at the north end of Lincoln City. According to NLFR Deputy Chief Cody Heidt the two 14 year olds got stuck on the trail at Gods Thumb. This is not a space that the rope rescue team is able to work from. One NLFR member was able to reach the two however he also became stuck trying to rescue the teens. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Columbia River were contacted by Lincoln County Dispatch requesting assistance rescuing the two teens, along with a member of North Lincoln Fire and Rescue.
The Coast Guard helicopter crew safely hoisted all three of the individuals trapped on the rock and transported them to Siletz Bay State Airfield. There were no reports of injuries. This is the second rescue in this area in May. The US Coast Guard assisted with that rescue as well. "Our air crews frequently train with our agency partner agencies to conduct rescues in a variety of conditions and terrain in the Pacific Northwest," said CDR Amanda Denning, Executive Officer of Coast Guard Air Station Astoria. "We are extremely happy that we were able to rescue the three individuals and transport them to safety."
