Ten years ago, the Yachats Ladies Club began a partnership with the Yachats Lions Club tospread a bit of joy throughout our community by participating in the Random Acts of KindnessFoundation week national event. Sweet Treats (Random Acts of Kindness) were delivered to unsuspecting workers in City offices, Libraries, Businesses and to special individuals. Containers were filled with homemade cookies and decorated packages were delivered by volunteers and a new tradition was started. Unfortunately, due to Covid health restrictions, deliveries stalled for a couple of years. In 2023 the Lions and Ladies clubs restarted the event and almost 100 packages were delivered.
Established in 1927, the Yachats Ladies Club has been called upon several times a year to make sweet treats for many community events, including the Winter Solstice Bonfire, Santa's visit to Heceta Head Lighthouse, the New Years Day Peace Hike and City Receptions. Fundraising events include hosting a hot dog feed on July 4th and annually we sell raffle tickets for a beautiful quilt with all of the proceeds used for scholarships at Oregon Coast Community College. After upkeep of our building costs, donations are made to local entities like, SamaritanHouse, Lincoln County Resources, local Food Banks, Lincoln County Literacy, The Hub, and Humane Society. Although our membership consists of nearly 50 members, some only living part-time in Yachats, over 15 members can be depended upon to bake and craft for the community's benefit.
Established in 1950, the Yachats Lions Club serves Yachats and South Lincoln County. With our motto of "WE SERVE" we provide service for eyeglasses and exams, hearing aids and exams, eye screening in Lincoln County schools, pancake breakfasts, crab feed, lunch bunch, speaker series, peace poster and flag day events in our schools, and community use of our clubhouse. Through community donations to the Yachats Lions Thrift Store our sales allow us to donate to local, student scholarships, food pantries, school programs, projects, and upkeep of the clubhouse. In addition, donations are made to Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing as well as LionsClub International Foundation.
Lions Club International is the world's largest service club organization with a network of 1.4 million men and women in more than 200 countries and geographical locations. We serve where we live, as well as globally, and we have fun doing it. The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation (RAK) is a small nonprofit that invests time, expertise and resources into its mission, Make Kindness the Norm. We are rooted in the belief that all people can connect through kindness and that kindness can be taught.
