The Siletz Valley Fire District has secured just over $1 million in federal funding and finalized a key land deal with the City of Siletz, clearing the way for a new fire station annex, an eventual on-site ambulance, and a fully certified community evacuation shelter. Newport Police Assist Salem Police With Arson Arrest
On the evening of January 30, Salem Police officers responded to a report of attempted arson in the 5300 block of Landon Street SE. The investigation identified 32-year old Jacob Braun as the suspect, who attempted to ignite a paper bag containing gasoline on the front porch. When that failed, he poured the gasoline on the porch and walls and attempted to ignite it with a lighter but was unsuccessful.
