Oregon State Police have investigated another fatal crash in Lincoln County, claiming the life of a Seal Rock resident. This week has been marked by a distressing series of three fatal traffic crashes within a span of seven days. The latest incident occurred on Sunday, June 8, 2025, near Seal Rock. Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 101 at approximately 6:10 p.m. Preliminary investigations indicate that Leslie Ryan Campbell, 45, of Seal Rock, was traveling southbound in a gray Toyota Matrix when the car veered off the roadway for unknown reasons.
The Toyota struck guide wires on the south embankment before ultimately colliding with a tree. Sadly, Campbell, who was the sole occupant, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The tragic incident led to a four-hour impact on Highway 101 as OSP’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) conducted their on-scene investigation. OSP was assisted by the Seal Rock Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
This latest fatality follows two other heartbreaking crashes in Lincoln County this past week. The first deadly crash claimed the life of a young Waldport man on Wednesday evening June 4 at Ona Beach. On Saturday June 7th there was a multi-car crash, where the driver of a Chevy Spark left the lane of travel, striking another car, causing a chain reaction involving 3 more cars. The driver of the Chevy was killed, and several were taken to the hospital with injuries they sustained in the crash.
Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) on the Scene:
It's important to note that the Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) was involved in the investigation of these crashes. This specialized unit is dedicated to investigating fatal and critical injury collisions across Oregon's highways. Comprised of ACTAR-accredited collision reconstructionists and technical collision investigators, the CRU utilizes advanced measuring techniques and small unmanned aircraft systems to meticulously document, investigate, and analyze complex motor vehicle crashes. Their expertise is crucial in understanding the dynamics of these devastating incidents.
Urgent Safety Information for Lincoln County Drivers:
In light of these recent events, we urge all drivers to prioritize safety every time they get behind the wheel. Here are crucial reminders to help prevent future tragedies:
Eliminate Distractions: Put away cell phones, avoid eating, and focus solely on the road. Even a few seconds of inattention can have catastrophic consequences.
Obey Speed Limits: Speed limits are established for a reason. Driving too fast reduces your reaction time and increases the severity of a crash.
Drive Sober: Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Impaired driving significantly impairs judgment, coordination, and reaction time.
Wear Your Seatbelt: This simple act can be the difference between life and death. Seatbelts significantly reduce the risk of serious injury or fatality in a crash.
Be Aware of Road Conditions: Oregon's weather can change rapidly. Adjust your driving to account for rain, fog, or other adverse conditions.
Maintain Your Vehicle: Regular vehicle maintenance, including tire checks, brake inspections, and fluid levels, can prevent mechanical failures that could lead to a crash.
Get Enough Rest: Drowsy driving can be as dangerous as drunk driving. Ensure you are well-rested before embarking on a journey.
Be Patient and Courteous: Road rage and aggressive driving contribute to accidents. Practice patience and courtesy on the road.
The loss of three lives in such a short period is a profound tragedy for Lincoln County. Let these incidents serve as a sobering reminder that road safety is a shared responsibility. By adhering to safe driving practices, we can all contribute to making our roads safer for everyone.
