Beach Access Chair Fundraiser

The Newport Parks and Recreation Department will host a fundraiser and demonstration excursion to benefit a new mobility track chair program that will be placed at Nye Beach for universal access to the beach. The fundraiser is on Friday, June 16, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Newport Elks Lodge. The demonstration excursion is on Saturday, June 17, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Nye Beach Turnaround.

The Friday evening fundraiser will benefit the purchase of a mobility track chair for

Newport and assist with future upgrades and maintenance costs. The event is open to

the public. The event will include free food and music, a chance to meet the David’s

Chair organization, learn about the new program, a silent auction for gift baskets, gift

certificates, and other great items from local supporters.

The Saturday demonstration excursion will be the community’s chance to see the

mobility track chairs in action. David’s Chair will have 4-6 track chairs on hand for the

public to try on the beach. The chairs will be located at the Nye Beach Turnaround from

10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. All community members are welcomed to stop by.

David’s Chair is a 501 C (3) nonprofit. They allow people with mobility challenges to use

track chairs and Para Golfers for free. They have purchased and own a fleet of track

chairs and Para Golfers that they maintain for people to use free of charge. Users of

their chairs long for independence and freedom that mobility challenges take away.

David’s Chair wants to help give that back to the users. Their excursions are designed to

allow a person with mobility challenges to go to one of the excursion locations to use the

track chairs and not have to worry about transporting a track chair.
