On 4/9/22 at approximately 930AM State Police Trooper Severson responded to a report of a bicyclist who had been hit by a car. The bicyclist was thrown from his bicycle. Witnesses reported the driver of the continued northbound. The car was located by Newport Police and stopped. The driver, identified as 47-year old Shane M. Dawson was contacted and ultimately arrested. Dawson provided a breath sample measuring a .32 Blood Alcohol Content, he was cited and released for DUI Alcohol and Failure to Perform Duties of a Driver in a Crash with Injury. Newport Police and Lincoln County Sheriff's Office assisted.
