On 04/02/23, a green Chevy El Camino was traveling south on Highway 101 near Surfside Circle and Shell in downtown Yachats when the driver swerved out of its lane of travel and struck a 14-year old who was walking with family on the north bound shoulder. The child sustained injury to thier leg and was transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport where they were treated for their injury. The driver, identified as 86-year old Wolfgang G. Grotke consented to Safety Field Sobriety Tests and no impairment was observed during the tests. He was cited for careless driving and failure to drive within lane.
