Hit And Run Leads To DUII Citation

On 2/9/21 at approximately 4:00 PM State Police Trooper Wertz was notified by Newport Police of suspect vehicle involved in a hit and run in Newport. A silver Chevy Tahoe left the scene of a minor crash and the registered owner had an address in Eddyville. Trooper Wertz responded to the residence and located the female driver and suspected Tahoe at approximately 4:30 pm. The woman, identified as 33-year old Samantha J. Morgan smelled strongly of alcohol and exhibited signs of impairment.

She stated she drank one shot of vodka since arriving at home but could not produce a bottle as proof. She consented to and performed poorly on Safety Field Sobriety Test's and afterward was taken into custody and transported to Lincoln County Jail where she consented to a breath test rendering a result of .10 Blood Alcohol Content. Morgan was cited and released by Oregon State Police for DUII - Alcohol. She was cited additionally by Newport Police Department for Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver and Reckless Driving.
