Icy Roads Caused Accidents Over The Weekend


The icy road conditions over the weekend caused a few traffic crashes. Saturday (3/9/19) morning just after 6am State Police Trooper Trombla was dispatched to a single car non-injury crash near the area of mile post 1.5 on Highway 18. The driver of a Chevy Silverado was navigating a right hand curve, when the SUV veered into the oncoming lane and went down a slight embankment and collided with a tree causing the side airbags to deploy. No injuries were reported. Icy roadway conditions were a contributing factor to the crash.


About an hour later at 7am Trooper Trombla responded to hwy 101 to a single car crash near the area of mile post 130 at Otter Crest. The driver of a Dodge, was north bound near the area and navigating a right hand corner. Due to icy conditions the car veered across the south bound lanes, striking the south bound guardrail then bounced off the guardrail and continued back into the north bound lane, sticking the north bound guardrail.


Just after 8am Trooper Trombla responded to the same area on Highway 101 at Otter Crest. The driver of a Jeep, was south bound and navigating a left hand corner. Due to icy conditions the Jeep veered across the north bound lanes, striking the north bound guardrail. The Jeep then bounced off the guardrail and continued back into the south bound lane, striking the south bound guardrail. The driver, 32-year old Alfonso Cordero Martinez was cited for speeding and for having no Oregon Operators License.
